BIO AND MISSION STATEMENT
Thanks for visiting! My name is Gunnar Norskog. I write speculative fiction, primarily longer works. I'm a graduate of Team Arsenic, the 2016 class of Clarion West Writers Workshop. I've been writing since childhood. When I wasn't huddled over my mom's typewriter or reading in my blanket fort, I was often swimming in Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota. I still visit the lake in the summer, but spend most of my time in the mountains west of Las Vegas. I enjoy hiking, kayaking, and watching hockey.
People sometimes ask the meaning of my name. Gunnar means warrior. Norskog was Americanized from the Norwegian Nordskog, which can be translated as the north woods.
I believe that sharing my personal stories can help others facing similar challenges. I believe that people can benefit from creating a narrative of their life in which they are the hero protagonist. I believe that fiction is a transformative art because reading and writing stories places us in a magical reality where we can honor our own challenges and injuries, respect our own beliefs, have compassion for our own failures, and ultimately rejoice in our own heroism.
